Self Assessment & Personal Tax
Do you need to file a Self Assessment tax return in 2025/26?
The full trigger list — self-employed, directors with untaxed income, landlords, high earners.
You generally need to file Self Assessment for 2025/26 if: gross self-employment income over **£1,000**; you are a company director with untaxed income above the **£500** dividend allowance; property income over **£1,000**; total taxable income over **£150,000**; CGT to pay above the **£3,000** exemption; the High Income Child Benefit Charge applies; significant untaxed savings/investment/foreign income; or HMRC sends you a notice. If HMRC sends a notice, you must file even if no tax is owed — unless HMRC withdraws the request. **Read the full guide at [rraccountants.uk/do-i-need-self-assessment](https://rraccountants.uk/do-i-need-self-assessment).**
